Regulation (EU) 2021/1232[1] on a temporary derogation from certain provisions of Directive 2002/58/EC as regards the use of technologies by providers of number-independent interpersonal communications services for the processing of personal and other data for the purpose of combating online child sexual abuse came into force on 2 August 2021.

According to Article 3 (1)(g)(vii) of this Regulation, the providers of number-independent interpersonal communications have to publish and submit to the Commission a report on the processing of personal data under this Regulation by 3 February 2022.

  • 1.What providers has the Commission received reports from to date?
  • 2.Were the reports sufficiently detailed and in compliance with the requirements of the Regulation, and if not, did the Commission request improvement (if applicable, please specify according to provider)?
  • 3.What is the Commission’s overall assessment of the usefulness of the reports in assessing the effectiveness of the measures taken, and what changes, if any, would it propose?
